The Style

At just over four feet tall, the Focal Sopra No. 3 is a large speaker, but it is never imposing. Like the rest of the Sopra series, the curves of the cabinet soften the visual impact. Premium materials are used throughout. The handcrafted cabinet is finished in a gorgeous high-gloss coating, under which you have the option of a variety of solid colours or high-grade wood veneers. Aluminium trim around the speaker drivers completes the luxurious look. For a sleeker style the main drivers can be concealed with magnetic black cloth grilles.

As the largest model in Focal’s Sopra range, you won’t be surprised to hear that the Sopra No. 3 is a big sounding speaker. Very big. This is a speaker that needs room to breathe, no question. To think that it “just” plays louder or “just” has deeper bass than its smaller sibling, the Sopra No. 3, is to miss the point entirely. A critical component of accurate music reproduction is dynamics and scale. The additional headroom that is afforded by the Sopra No. 3’s larger drivers and cabinet completely changes the character of this speaker. The high frequency reproduction of the Sopra series is without peer, and in the Sopra No. 3, Focal matches that with a stunning bass performance. The midrange is more engaging as well, as it gains a warmth and bloom that simply makes it sound more real, more organic. To get the most out of this speaker you need the room and also a top-flight front end. But if you have that, and you’re ready, the Focal Sopra No. 3 is waiting for you.

  • Focal Sopra requires a minimum of 200 hours of break-in before delivering its best performance.

  • Experiment with placement for the best results. We recommend at least 36” from the back of the speaker to the back wall. Adjust the toe-in (angle of the speakers towards the listening position) for the sharpest soundstage.
