The Creative Audio Review

It would be easy to say the Cambridge Audio Evo 150 is simply an Evo 75 with more power. As is often the case, it’s a bit more complicated than that. First, from a connectivity perspective, there is definitely more on offer: a moving magnet phono input, one set of balanced XLR analog inputs, and a USB audio input make the Evo 150 more versatile. A second set of speaker outputs is available to power a second room, though we wouldn’t normally advocate running both pairs of speakers at the same time. When it comes to the sound quality, it is classic Cambridge Audio: neutral, detailed, and rythmic. Where it differs from the Evo 75 is in the depth and control offered in the lower bass. This is apparent at all volume levels, but especially when pushed harder. There is also improved resolution of low-level details, particularly evident in more dense tracks. Play some Rage Against The Machine and the Rage will be a bit more apparent, more successfully toppling the Machine at low and loud levels. The integrated phono input is a nice treat as well; while you’ll always get a better result with an outboard phono preamp, we think the one included is very capable and as such helps keep the cable clutter to a minimum. Overall this is a solid all-in-one system solution and one that we recommend without hesitation.

Sound Advice

  • The Cambridge Audio Evo 150 will sound great right out of the box, but it will sound even better after 50-75 hours of use.

  • WiFi is built-in to this unit, however we always recommend a wired Ethernet connection if possible.
