The Creative Audio Review
In our experience, the greatest fault of many inexpensive speakers is that they try too hard to cover up their flaws. A mid- or low-fi speaker will push the bass and treble too far forward, muddying the music with too much ‘boom and tizz’. What we love about DALI and their entry-level Spektor 1 is their focus on the music, first and foremost. Look, this is a small speaker with a 4 1/2” bass driver - it should be obvious that you’re not going to rock a house party with these speakers. However, put them in a small space and position them close to the wall, and power them with a quality amplifier and we promise you will be surprised and delighted. For those who haven’t experienced proper hi-fi before and are looking to move beyond a Bluetooth speaker, the DALI Spektor 1 is one of the best budget bookshelf speakers you’ll find. If you love it but just want a more fuller sound, check out its larger sibling, the Spektor 2.
Sound Advice
The DALI Spektor 1 will sound great from the moment you start playing them, but they will sound even better after 50+ hours of use, when the drivers have been broken in.
With a compact bookshelf speaker such as the DALI Spektor 1, placement closer to the back wall will help reinforce bass frequencies for a fuller sound at all volume levels.
A good quality speaker wire with banana plug connectors will give the DALI Spektor 1 the opportunity to sound its best.
DALI Spektor 1 Technical Specifications
We provide this information from the manufacturer for those who want to know or who find it interesting. In our opinion, however, you shouldn’t pay too much heed to technical specs. How a component reacts to test tones in a lab bears little relation to how it will sound at home playing music, a far more complex and nuanced signal than any test tone. Knowledge is power and the best knowledge is not how a component ‘sounds’ to a computer, but how it sounds to you.
