We’re big fans of the Marantz Model 40n, with built-in streaming. The Model 50 features the same power rating but in an all-analog design. There’s no streaming in this amp, or even any digital inputs. What there is, however, is a whole lot of Marantz musicality. By removing the streaming and digital sections, and the unavoidable noise that those components produce, you get a sound that is more focused and more dynamic. While similar in character, the Model 50 sounds as if a veil between you and the music has been lifted. It’s built-in phono preamp is wonderfully engaging and makes a compelling case for a simple one-box analog solution. Of course there are multiple analog inputs, allowing you to hook up an outboard streamer. Being focused on amplification only, the Model 50 allows you to take your system to whatever level you want by adding only the components you want, at the quality level you want. This was a solid play by Marantz. Highly recommended!
