This is the latest incarnation of a turntable that needs no introduction. Pro-Ject’s Debut series has always offered a legit hi-fi experience at an affordable price. Upgrades from the previous version include improved motor mounting, a heavier platter, and adjustable isolation feet that make levelling the ‘table a snap. The Pro-Ject Debut Carbon EVO comes with the Ortofon 2M Red pre-mounted, meaning you’ll have the tunes playing within minutes of unboxing…and does this ‘table ever play music! It’s the lush and detailed midrange that seduces us with this Pro-Ject. High-end audio is about accuracy and resolution of fine detail, and make no mistake the Pro-Ject Debut Carbon EVO offers plenty of both. What is so endearing though is the touch of sweetness that it adds to every album it spins. Too much of this and we would call it coloured, but the Pro-Ject always keeps things in line. If a straight shot of espresso is too intense, a premium latte with one sugar might be just the ticket. That is exactly what this ‘table is in sonic terms. Rather than being a sugary abomination from ‘Bux, this is sophisticated but most important, palatable for all. We also happen to think it looks great too. Highly recommended!
Sound Advice
The Pro-Ject Debut Carbon EVO will sound great right out of the box, but it will sound even better after 25-50 hours of use, when the cartridge has had a chance to break in.
For best results, be sure to place the turntable on a flat and level surface.
Before playing, you should always remove any surface dust from the record using a quality anti-static carbon fibre record brush.
