Precision
A key upgrade in the Rega Planar 2 over the budget Planar 1 is the RB220 tonearm. While as easy to set up as the entry-level RB110, this tonearm features tighter bearing tolerances and a unique one-piece design. The aim here is improved rigidity and less unwanted resonance. That means you hear more of what you want to hear: that awesome music in the groove!
Stability
The Rega Planar 2 features the same low-noise, low-vibration 24V motor and EBLT Advanced drive belt as the Planar 1. The performance of these components is greatly enhanced, however, by the heavy glass platter featured on the Planar 2. The high mass of this platter gives an enhanced flywheel effect leading to greater speed stability.
Simplicity
Like all Rega turntables, simplicity is key to the design. With the Planar 2 and its included Carbon cartridge, this simplicity means you’ll have it set up and playing glorious music in less than 30 seconds. You can appreciate this design principle aesthetically too; the Rega Planar 2 is a handsome record player that will look great in your listening room. Most importantly, the simplicity of the design leads to superb sound quality. There are no extraneous pieces that get in the way of what matters most: the music.
The Creative Audio Review
Demo track: ‘Songbird’ by Fleetwood Mac. We love the Rega Planar 2 because of the looks it elicits when we demo it in our showroom. The Rega Planar 1 sounds fantastic. So much so, in fact, that it leads many to wonder how a record player could sound any better. If you’re shopping for a great turntable for your vinyl collection, you need to hear what the Planar 2 can do. We can pretty much guarantee you’ll hear the difference immediately. On this track you’ll hear the increased speed stability on the piano, but you’ll also notice a much greater sense of the space in the recording. This is fine detail locked in the groove that a better quality ‘table like the Rega can bring to the forefront. Suddenly everything that was familiar is new again. It’s a thrilling ride.

Sound Advice
The Rega Planar 2 will sound great right out of the box, but it will sound even better after 25-50 hours of use, when the cartridge has had a chance to break in.
Before playing, you should always remove any surface dust from the record using a quality anti-static carbon fibre record brush.
