The Creative Audio Review

The REL T/5x just arrived in our showroom and we haven’t had a chance to put it through its paces. Watch this space, because as soon as we do we will share our thoughts.

A Closer Look at the REL T/5x

Form for Function

REL is obsessive about detail. Sound quality is always their first priority but they don’t stop there. With the T/5x, their sound engineers needed an enclosure with more cabinet volume to deliver greater impact and increased resolution. Their designers took this requirement, worked the dimensions and rounded the corners, tricking the eye into thinking this subwoofer is smaller than it really is. Then it gets wrapped in 5 coats of lacquer and voila, you have the T/5x: a subwoofer that delivers astonishing audio performance from a delightfully compact and pretty enclosure.

Fast into the Deep

An 8” longthrow bass driver (the same used in the T/7x) gives the T/5x the ability to plumb the depths with incredible resolution. Every detail of the driver’s construction is obsessed over, from its cone made from a composite of aluminium and light paper, to the internal suspension. This gives it the ability to move far and fast, meaning there is no sluggish thumping here. Put the T/5x in your system and you’ll realize that the deep bass in your music isn’t just rumble, it’s detail - detail that you’ve been missing.

Musical Power

It’s not just the bass driver that is responsible for the legendary REL sound. Where most sub manufacturers resort to inexpensive but powerful-on-paper amplifier solutions, REL is steadfast in their use of tried-and-true Class A/B amplification. There is no denying the musicality of this design, enhanced by REL’s unique high-level connection system. By connecting the subwoofer to your amplifier’s speaker-level outputs your subwoofer takes on the musical character of your system.

Creative Audio Pro Tips

  • Care taken in positioning and adjusting the REL T/5x will pay massive dividends in its performance. Fortunately we are here to help you with the process.

  • If you are more of a DIY type, we strongly advise you take the time to read the instructions that accompany the REL T/5x subwoofer. REL subs are unlike any other sub on the market and it is important to heed their recommendations.
