The Wharfedale Denton 85 is a two-way bookshelf speaker with dual rear ports. For best sonic performance, we recommend placing this speaker on a solid stand with a minimum distance of 12” from the back of the speaker to the wall behind it. While it has an average efficiency rating of 88 dB, you will want to make sure you pair it with an amplifier capable of driving a 4 ohm speaker load.

The Creative Audio Review
This is a fun little speaker. Like its larger sibling, the Linton Heritage, the Wharfedale Denton 85 draws on the past and yet delivers a modern musical performance. Contemporary speaker design focuses on accuracy and for good reason, and yet sometimes that approach can lead to a result that may be technically correct but is ultimately uninvolving, emotionally. The Denton 85 is the perfect antidote to that approach. Its qualities have been well-chosen: it can certainly check all the audiophile boxes in its performance, but most importantly it will get your toes tapping. It does have a lively top-end and so one must be careful what amplifier to partner it with. But, get that partnership right and this speaker will put a smile on your face. You’ll also be surprised at just how deep it can reach in the bass region. Mozart or Metallica, the Denton 85 is a fantastic sounding bookshelf model, and its vintage style will add a great visual accent to any room.
Creative Audio Pro Tips
The Wharfedale Denton 85 will sound great right out of the box, but will sound even better after 100 hours of use.
Experiment with placement in relation to the back wall. Placing the speaker closer to this wall will emphasise the bass but could also lead to a congested mid-range. Find the position that strikes the right balance for you and your room. A distance of 12”-18” will probably be ideal.
We always recommend a quality speaker cable to get the most out of your system.
