Grado’s limited edition Heritage models always hit the mark, and the latest model, The Hemp, hits a new high. This is no surprise really, as Grado have long been masters of manipulating materials to get even better sound out of their world-famous cans. In the past they have focused on woods and metals, but with this model they work with a new material: highly compressed hemp. For good measure there’s some maple in there too. That combination is a testament to Grado’s relentless dedication to getting it right - one of the reasons Grado has been a mainstay at Creative Audio for decades. The end result is a headphone that acts as the perfect bridge from the entry-level Prestige series to the mid-range Reference series. Stretch just a bit past the SR325x and you’ll be rewarded with a real taste of Reference: a new level of detail, particularly in the upper bass and midrange. The sound is neutral, as all Grado’s are, but a veil is definitely lifted with this new model. Not only that, but its a looker too. There’s just nothing not to like here.

Sound Advice

The Grado The Hemp headphones will sound great right out of the box but they will sound even better after around 50 hours of use, a period known as ‘break in’. During this time the suspension of the drivers will relax and the end result is a deeper, more natural bass and smoother high frequency extension.
