The Creative Audio Review
No home is complete without a good audio system. Thanks to sleek, all-in-one components like the Cambridge Audio Evo 75, the excuse of not having the space no longer holds water. We love the proportions of the Evo 75, and the ability to customise its look thanks to the interchangeable side panels in walnut or black makes it even more appealing. The large, full-colour display makes album art and information easily readable even from across the room. Of course, all of this would be for naught if the Evo 75 didn’t produce great sounding music. Fortunately, it most definitely does. Our most popular compact all-in-one system is Naim’s stunning Uniti Atom. To be sure, the Atom delivers a superior performance in every respect, however at almost twice the price we would certainly expect this to be the case. For those whose budget doesn’t stretch to the likes of the Naim, the Cambridge Audio Evo 75 definitely needs to be on the shortlist. What we love about the Evo 75 is its confident, authoritative performance. It’s almost as if it feels it has something to prove, and we’d say it succeeds handily. From top to bottom, the Evo 75 reproduces the frequency range with accuracy and detail. It handily avoids the pitfalls of lesser Class-D implementations and sounds, dare we say it, rich and warm-bodied. It also has that key ingredient (in our opinion) to a great hi-fi system - musicality. The music flows easily with the Evo 75 and one never feels like they are listening to an ‘all-in-one’ system. Its larger sibling, the Evo 150, offers a larger and more authoritative performance, with greater low-level resolution of fine detail. That said, considering its price, the Evo 75 is a shockingly good performer.
Sound Advice
The Cambridge Audio Evo 75 will sound great right out of the box, but it will sound even better after 50-75 hours of use.
WiFi is built-in to this unit, however we always recommend a wired Ethernet connection if possible.
